Privacy Policy

CommentClean is built for quick browser-based code cleanup. The main privacy promise is simple: your pasted or uploaded code is cleaned locally in your browser and is not uploaded by the app.

What CommentClean Handles

Code and files

CommentClean runs comment removal in your browser. Pasted code and uploaded files are processed locally by the page and are not sent to a CommentClean server.

Uploaded files are read by your browser only so the app can show and clean the text you selected. CommentClean does not store file names, file contents, cleaned output, or editor history.

Optional cookies

CommentClean does not load optional analytics cookies unless you choose Accept optional cookies. If you decline, the app stores that choice in your browser and keeps analytics off.

When optional cookies are accepted, CommentClean uses Google Analytics to understand aggregate product usage, such as page views and general interaction patterns. Analytics data may include device, browser, approximate region, referral page, and similar usage signals. The app does not send pasted code, uploaded files, cleaned output, or editor history to Google Analytics.

The Google Analytics setup disables Google Signals and ad personalization signals. Google Analytics may set cookies such as _ga and _ga_<measurement-id> to distinguish visits and sessions.

If you decline optional cookies after previously accepting them, CommentClean disables analytics for the current page and attempts to clear Google Analytics cookies that are accessible from this site.

Do not paste secrets, credentials, private keys, or sensitive proprietary code into any online tool unless you are comfortable with your own browser environment and installed extensions.

Browser storage and permissions

The app stores your theme preference in localStorage and a first-party, same-site cookie named commentclean-theme. The cookie stores only system, light, or dark, lasts up to one year, and lets the server render explicit light or dark choices immediately on future visits.

When you choose system mode, CommentClean follows your browser or device color-scheme setting.

The theme preference is used only for interface display and is not used for analytics, advertising, or cross-site tracking. You can change it with the theme toggle or remove it by clearing browser site data.

The app stores your optional cookie preference in localStorage so it can remember whether analytics should stay off or be loaded on future visits. You can change this from the Optional cookies button in the footer.

Clipboard actions use your browser clipboard permission when you choose Paste, Copy, or copy a share link. The app does not continuously read your clipboard.

Your choices

You can use the comment cleaner even when optional cookies are declined. You can also clear your browser site data to remove stored theme and optional cookie preferences.

Because CommentClean does not create accounts, store editor history, or receive your pasted code, many access or deletion requests can be handled directly by clearing local browser data. For questions, use the public GitHub contact link below.

Sharing and external links

Share buttons open third-party websites or apps with the CommentClean page URL. CommentClean does not include your code in shared links.

Links to GitHub, Ko-fi, and social platforms are operated by third parties and are covered by their own privacy policies. The optional Support link in the footer opens the creator Ko-fi page; CommentClean does not receive tip or payment data.

Changes

This policy may be updated as CommentClean changes. The most recent version will be available on this page.
